Conference overview
We have analysed the feedback from our previous meetings, and have based this year’s conference on the
request for more clinical content with our theme ‘Clinical Cases and Innovations in
Gerodontology’.
With the end of the road for amalgam becoming a reality, Professor Trevor Burke will trace the demise
of dental amalgam and discuss potential “viable alternatives” to be used in older people.
Miranda Steeples, president BSDHT, will give an overview on New Legislative Changes for
Dental Therapists and Dental Hygienists and how this may impact on delivering care to older
people.
Professor Jugdeep Dhesi has led the development and evaluation of the innovative and
award-winning Perioperative medicine for Older People undergoing Surgery (POPS) service
in the United Kingdom. She will discuss this model of care as it has been shown to deliver
better outcomes for older people undergoing surgery.
Vicky Adams will discuss the Role of Simulation and the use of an ‘ageing suit’ in promoting
empathy for undergraduate students and fulfil soft skills included in the updated GDC
curriculum for undergraduate dental students.
Artificial intelligence has become a hot topic worldwide. Jamie Toole will discuss the use of
AI in dentistry and how this can be applied to older people.
We are hosting an interactive afternoon panel session and will include gerodontology cases
on MRONJ, implants, failing dentition and sedation. Further details to follow.
There will be an opportunity for question and answer session with our panel members.

Of course there will also be the opportunity to submit and/or ask questions on the day!
Arrival & interval refreshments and a hot buffet lunch will be provided, and there will be ample time for networking, browsing sponsor stands and poster exhibition viewing.
